Based in Rockford, Illinois, the Country Butcher produces 100% USA-sourced and made natural dog treats, chews, and bones with no artificial ingredients, sold at retailers nationwide. As they looked to expand their direct-to-consumer presence online, they needed a Shopify store that could carry the weight of a serious heritage brand while making it easy for pet parents to find exactly what their dog needs.

We partnered with The Country Butcher to build a clean, confident Shopify storefront that reflects the quality behind the product.

A Heritage Brand, Built for Direct-to-Consumer

This project was about creating a foundation that honors a brand with over 160 years of butcher heritage while setting them up for modern eCommerce.

Using a focused, theme-based approach, we built a Shopify site that makes it easy for customers to browse a wide product catalog by dog size, protein type, and chew style, without feeling overwhelmed. The result is a site that feels as trustworthy and approachable as the brand it represents.

Collection Pages Built Around How Pet Parents Shop

Dog treat shopping is personal. Customers think in terms of their dog's size, chewing habits, and dietary preferences. We structured collection pages to filter and sort by the details that matter most: protein source, dog size, chew hardness, and overall benefits.

A Buy Box Built Around the Dog, Not Just the Product: This was designed to answer the questions pet parents have before they add to cart. The result is a buy box that builds confidence quickly and reduces the back-and-forth that leads to abandoned carts.

Feeding Tips Tailored to Every Collection: Below the fold, we built a feeding tips section powered by metaobjects, meaning the content is unique to each collection rather than generic across the catalog. It's a small detail that adds real value and reinforces The Country Butcher's expertise with every visit.

Dynamic Accordions

Key details are surfaced up front: which dog sizes the product is best suited for, a clear breakdown of benefits, and a structured view of ingredients and nutrition facts.

We integrated Gorgias to give The Country Butcher a connected, manageable customer support experience from day one. Shoppers can get answers to common questions without leaving the site, and the team has a single place to handle any incoming inquiries. For a brand where product education matters - ingredients, sourcing, sizing, safety - having that support layer in place at launch is essential.

Online Exclusive and In-Store Products, All in One Place

Not every Country Butcher product is available to purchase online, but that doesn't mean it shouldn't be discoverable. We integrated with Pear Commerce to clearly distinguish between products available to buy directly on the site and those that can be found at a nearby retailer. Customers browsing a product that isn't sold online are directed to the store locator rather than hitting a dead end, keeping the full catalog visible and every customer moving in the right direction.
