The Challenge: When Your Platform Feels Outdated

For years, Brondell thrived on Magento 1, but as their business evolved, it became clear that their platform was holding them back. With ambitious plans to expand across multiple sales channels, they needed a more modern, flexible solution that could support their growth. Managing a complex and growing business on an aging platform like Magento 1 began to pose challenges—simple updates required developer assistance, slowing progress and driving up costs. Brondell needed a platform that empowered their team to take control of the site, manage product information independently, and scale seamlessly with the business as it expanded.

The Solution: Replatforming with BigCommerce

When it came time to upgrade, Brondell needed a platform that could keep up with their evolving business. After carefully weighing their options, they landed on BigCommerce—thanks to its unbeatable flexibility, scalability, and seamless integration with complex systems like Netsuite ERP. BigCommerce empowered the Brondell team to manage their site more independently, while simplifying operations across multiple sales channels.

As Brondell’s trusted eCommerce partner since 2018, Netalico was involved every step of the way. We designed and developed a fully custom site, from the homepage to the cart, tailored to Brondell’s specific needs. Our goal? To ensure that the new platform didn’t just meet their current demands but also supported their bold vision for future growth.

The Build Process: Crafting a Flexible, Future-Proof Design

During the design phase, Brondell was also undergoing a rebranding, which added an extra layer of complexity to the project. Our team collaborated closely with Brondell to gather design requirements that prioritized flexibility and growth. The site needed to feature modular sections for the homepage, image-heavy product pages, detailed product specifications, and a revamped product organization to align with Brondell’s ambitious plans.

We wireframed the core components of the site for both desktop and mobile, ensuring a seamless user experience across devices.

Key design features included:

  • A sleek header and navigation with built-in promotional banners
  • Custom product listing pages with filters, sorting options, internal ads, and a product comparison feature
  • Intermediary category landing pages featuring buyer’s guides and curated shopping links
  • Rich product detail pages with collapsible content sections, technical specifications, and personalized product recommendations
  • A custom drawer cart and cart page with upsell features to enhance the shopping experience

To give Brondell more control over their site, we implemented Shogun Page Builder, which enabled the team to create reusable elements such as sliders, grids, and hero banners. This mix-and-match capability gave them more autonomy over their content and landing pages.

On product pages, we developed custom elements using BigCommerce’s native solutions, including widgets for product descriptions and upsells unique to each product. Additionally, we optimized product image galleries with features like “Amazon-like” hover images for a more engaging browsing experience across devices.

We didn’t wait for the rebranding to be fully finalized. Instead, we kick-started development early, applying the new branding as the sitewide style guide was completed. Throughout the build, our team worked efficiently to integrate Brondell’s marketing stack, Netsuite ERP, and ensured seamless customer and order data migration. Collaboration with their SEO and analytics teams guaranteed that data tracking continued smoothly post-launch.

The BigCommerce Factor: The Power Behind the Throne (or Bidet)

The migration to BigCommerce was a true team effort between Brondell, BigCommerce, and Netalico. From day one, we collaborated closely with BigCommerce to document every technical requirement for the replatform. We worked through the details to assess which features were natively supported by BigCommerce and which needed custom development. Our developers even went through BigCommerce's BigDev Bootcamp to sharpen their skills and make sure we could maximize the platform's potential.

As an enterprise client, Brondell benefited from dedicated support, with weekly strategy calls led by BigCommerce’s Client Success Manager, ensuring we were always on track. BigCommerce’s flexibility allowed us to craft tailored solutions—custom homepage modules, dynamic product listing page features, and seamless integration with Brondell’s marketing stack and analytics tools.

The Results: Success Soars Post-Launch!

Since Brondell’s site launch on BigCommerce in October 2022, the impact has been clear. Comparing the five months post-launch (Nov 2022 - Mar 2023) to the five months before launch (May 2022 - Sept 2022), Brondell saw significant gains across the board:

25%

increase in organic search traffic, bringing more visitors to the site.

10%

increase in average order value (AOV), as customers began purchasing more per order.

6%

lift in revenue, reflecting a consistent increase in sales.

8%

increase in pages per session, leaving key engagement metrics improving drastically

9%

boost in conversion rate—leading to more visitors turning into loyal buyers.

What’s Next for Brondell?

The future looks brighter than ever for Brondell. Next on their roadmap is integrating a Product Information Management (PIM) system, which will make managing products across various sales channels a breeze. This move will help Brondell maintain consistency and accuracy as they continue to expand their product lineup.

But they’re not stopping there! Brondell plans to roll out a warranty registration system, allowing them to capture valuable first-party data from their customers—even those shopping through wholesale partners. This will give the team powerful insights into customer preferences and behaviors, enabling more targeted marketing and deeper relationships with their audience.

Thanks to their migration to BigCommerce, Brondell now has the tools and flexibility they need to keep growing without limits. With an easily manageable website, seamless integrations, and a rock-solid foundation, Brondell is perfectly positioned to take on new challenges and scale to even greater heights. Stay tuned—this is just the beginning!
