Migrating from Magento to Shopify
In The Light Urns
In the Light Urns sells cremation urns, keepsakes, cremation jewelry, and pet memorials, nearly all of them engraved or personalized to order. Their customers usually arrive at one of the hardest moments of their lives, often unsure where to start.
The catalog runs to more than 3,000 products, most with their own engraving and add-on options. After years on Magento, the store had become hard for a small team to run. Personalization lived in text fields customers couldn't preview, collections depended on catch-all tags, and every change leaned on developer time.
Rick and Susan Fraser came to Netalico to move the business to Shopify without losing years of orders, customers, reviews, and search rankings along the way.

The Site Build
We migrated In the Light Urns from Magento to Shopify on the Broadcast theme, launching in August 2026.
The guiding idea was to let product data do the work. Magento's catch-all tags, where "Automotive" and "Outdoors" each covered 400+ unrelated products, were replaced with validated metafields for material, theme, size, purpose, and signature collection. Those fields now drive 128 automated collections and the storefront filters, so Susan adds a product, fills in its fields, and it lands in the right places on its own.
The rest of the build stayed close to the theme's native sections, with custom work saved for what a personalized catalog actually needed. The tone was set by the customer: no pushy upsells, no rigid quizzes, nothing that feels like a sales funnel to a grieving family.

Orders migrated
The full Magento order history came across alongside 206,508 customer records, with totals, tax, discounts, and addresses reconciled to the source. A test batch confirmed no customer received an email during the import.

Redirects mapped
Every URL Google still indexed was mapped to its new home, including 975 pages missing from the old sitemap that had drawn roughly 850,000 impressions.
Key Features & Customizations

Personalization with Live Preview
Globo Product Options powers every engraving line, photo upload, and add-on, and customers see their text rendered on the urn as they type. On Magento they typed into a blank field and hoped it looked right.

Full Data Migration from Magento
Products, 232,355 orders, 206,508 customers, and 14,660 reviews moved from Magento to Shopify, with option sets rebuilt from the original product data so nothing had to be re-entered by hand.

A Partnership Built on Trust
Site Build Investment: Custom Quote
Our strategists, designers, developers, and QA specialists worked alongside Rick and Susan from planning through launch, with weekly syncs and hands-on Shopify training so Susan could manage products and orders from day one. A written Shopify Guide documents every customization, including how to set up options for new products.

What's Next
The August 2026 launch set the foundation. Next up is extending live preview across more of the catalog and streamlining option sets as new products are added.
eCommerce is never really finished. There is always room to optimize, enhance, and grow.
