Rebuy Alternatives: What to Do Now That Rebuy Is Off the Shopify App Store

Rebuy alternatives for Shopify after its October 2026 App Store removal

Rebuy Personalization Engine is not currently available on the Shopify App Store. Its listing now reads: "This app is not currently available on the Shopify App Store. If you have support questions, contact Rebuy directly." App Store trackers show it removed on October 18, 2026. The listing gives no reason.

It left in a week when hundreds of apps were removed from the App Store, including other cart and post-purchase apps: ReConvert Post Purchase Upsell (since restored), and Rokt's Aftersell and Upcart. A separate set of apps, Hulk Product Options, Selleasy and Swym Wishlist Plus, confirmed that attackers used them to send shoppers to fake checkouts. Nothing public links Rebuy to those attacks. Our summary of the October app incidents tracks each one.

What Rebuy does on a typical store

Rebuy tends to run in several places at once, which is why losing it hurts more than losing a single widget:

  • Product recommendations on product pages, collection pages and the homepage.
  • The cart drawer (Rebuy's Smart Cart), often with upsells, free-shipping progress and cart offers.
  • Checkout and post-purchase offers on Shopify Plus.
  • Recommendations in email, fed into Klaviyo or another email platform.

Before you replace anything, list which of these your store uses and how much revenue each drives.

Check your store now

  1. Confirm Rebuy still works for you. Removal from the App Store doesn't always switch an app off on stores that already have it. Ask Rebuy directly what it means for your account and billing.
  2. Test the cart and checkout like a shopper. Private window, add to cart, open the cart drawer, accept an offer, click Checkout, and confirm you land on your real checkout. Repeat in fresh windows.
  3. Find what Rebuy replaced. If Rebuy's Smart Cart replaced your theme's cart drawer, you have no cart to fall back to if it stops loading. That's the first thing to fix.
  4. Check for custom HTML or JavaScript in Rebuy's widgets and remove anything you don't recognize.
  5. Turn on two-factor authentication for every Shopify staff and collaborator account, and for Rebuy's login.

Option 1: What Shopify does natively

  • Product recommendations: your theme's "You may also like" sections use Shopify's recommendation engine, free.
  • Complementary products: in Shopify's Search & Discovery app, you choose which products to suggest alongside each product.
  • Bundles: Shopify's free Bundles app handles fixed bundles and multipacks.
  • A theme cart drawer: most current themes include one, and it can show recommendations and a free-shipping message.
  • Checkout and thank-you page offers (Plus): checkout extensions show offers on Shopify's own secure checkout.

Native recommendations are less personalized than Rebuy's. For many stores, though, curated complementary products and a solid cart drawer recover most of the revenue.

Option 2: Another personalization app

These were listed on the Shopify App Store when we checked on October 24, 2026, and the first three carry Shopify's Built for Shopify badge. We haven't security-audited any of them.

  • LimeSpot: AI product recommendations, cart upsells and "bought together" bundles. The closest match to Rebuy's on-site recommendations.
  • Frequently Bought Together by Code Black Belt: Amazon-style "bought together" recommendations, with manual bundles and bundle discounts.
  • One Click Upsell by Zipify: pre- and post-purchase upsell offers, the part of Rebuy many Shopify Plus stores lean on most.
  • Nosto: personalization, merchandising and search in one platform, aimed at larger catalogs and teams.

Rokt's Aftersell and Upcart were still unavailable on October 24. ReConvert is listed again under its new name, Upsell.com.

Before installing any of them, ask:

Question Why it matters
Is the app currently listed on the Shopify App Store? Hundreds of apps were removed in October 2026. Check before you migrate.
Does it replace our theme's cart, or add to it? A replaced cart leaves you with nothing if the app fails.
Can HTML or scripts be added through your dashboard? That's how the confirmed October attacks ran.
Do you support two-factor authentication on every account? Leaked credentials caused at least one earlier incident.
Can you show revenue from your widgets, measured the same way Shopify measures it? So you can compare it fairly with native options and with Rebuy's old numbers.

Option 3: Own the cart and the offer rules

The cart drawer and your offer rules are revenue-critical, and they're the easiest parts of Rebuy to own. Build the cart drawer into your theme, let Shopify supply recommendations, and handle offers by order value or customer group with a Shopify Function. No vendor dashboard can change your cart, and no App Store decision can switch it off.

Before Black Friday: an App Risk Audit

Black Friday is November 27. Most stores freeze code a couple of weeks before. Our App Risk Audit maps every app on your store, identifies which can run code from their own dashboards, tests what breaks when each fails, and provides a written fallback plan for each critical app.

FAQ

Was Rebuy removed from the Shopify App Store?
Yes. As of October 24, 2026, its App Store listing says it is not currently available. The listing doesn't give a reason.

Was Rebuy part of the October checkout attacks?
Nothing public links it to them. The confirmed cases were Hulk Product Options, Selleasy and Swym Wishlist Plus.

Will Rebuy stop working on my store?
Not necessarily. Apps removed from the App Store often keep running for existing stores. Ask Rebuy, and test your cart and checkout either way.

Can I do personalized recommendations on Shopify without an app?
Partly. Shopify's built-in recommendations and Search & Discovery's complementary products are free. They're less personalized than Rebuy, but they cover the basics.
